Native Mascots do not bring Indigenous People honour. They do not show us respect, and they do not tell our histories in dignified ways. Instead, they feed into stereotypes that make our true histories, our diverse cultures, and our continued presence invisible. Native Mascots directly hurt Native Communities and individuals.
You can help the Committee of 500 Years to works towards the removal of undignified Mascotry, to help educate local schools, and to build respectful relationships with Indigenous Peoples in Ohio. Contact your local school district and help us start a dialogue.
